what’s the best place to visit in UK in november apart from London?

Me and my boyfriend live in London but would like to go and explore UK by car in the first week of November. I thought about Essex,Kent and Surrey as there are lots of gardens and castles to visit. But is there a better place to visit, like Manchester,for instance?We are of course not only interested in gardens and castles! As I am afrade it is a bit too cold for visiting gardens for this period of time,,,pls help!
