container gardening for beginners
If you’ve never had a container garden before- is it best to go with flowers or fruits/veggies?

The only plant I’ve ever had before was two venus fly traps in a homemade terrarium.
I kept them alive for about a year, then I was told that they would suffer if I didn’t put them into hibernation for the winter. The following spring, I went to take them out of hibernation and they just never revived. It was a shame, I really enjoyed keeping them.

I want to start a container garden however I’m not at all knowledgeable about the subject.
I have no idea where to get started.

Someone suggested to me, the best place to start was to decide what I wanted to plant.
Part of me would love to give a try to a tomatoe plant, maybe some herbs.
The other part of me is thinking about an outdoor terrarium with cactus or venus fly traps. Maybe even flowers.

I don’t want to spend alot of money doing both- which one might be more realistic for a beginner?

I have my herbs and a lot of my vegetables in containers. I have to do this because of space limitations. I use whiskey barrels to give me more planting room.

This web site is a great place to look up what you need to know. It is my main reference point when I have a question.

Most of my herbs come back every year. I have to plant basil every spring. Just figure out what you like and go to the web site for additional growing instructions.

Here is another helpful web site. It is solely for container gardening.
